A day in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains
A fascinating experience for everyone
The nicest landscape of Saxony and the most interesting part along the Elbe river south of Dresden are the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, also called Saxon Switzerland.
They start at Pirna, about 30 km south of Dresden, and reach till Děčín (in the Bohemian Switzerland).
The Elbe Sandstone mountains have been a popular destination for tourists for more than 200 years, and for climbers for more than 100 years. The sandstone landscapes with their impressive formations, plains and ravines alternating with table mountains and rock faces, belong to the most fascinating mountainous landscapes in Europe.
