Despite it is a small town, Weimar has been responsible for a significant part of German cultural history and it is still a fascinating cultural centre.

As the cradle of the German classicism and in combination with the names Goethe, Schiller, Herder and Wieland Weimar became world-wide well known. Artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and Lucas Cranach also left their traces in Weimar and contributed to its cultural influence.
